Description

One of the priorities of the government of Indonesian President Joko Widodo is the development of its maritime infrastructure. Enormous investments are needed for the construction and expansion of ports, a better opening up of ports by the construction of railways, roads, the deepening of shipping/navigation channels & inland canals, ICT solutions for logistics, port management, etc.

At the same time, one of the biggest challenges for the future of the National Capital of Indonesia, is to protect its inhabitants and fast growing economy against increasing flood risks due to a fast subsiding street level. The northern part of Jakarta is expected to subside well below sea level by 2050. Coastal protection will be key in the development plans of Jakarta and other regions. Flood protection, improved sanitation and water supply, improved connectivity and sustainable development are focus areas.

What can Belgium contribute: expertise!

Belgium has world leading maritime construction companies, specialized in dredging and reclamation works and coastal protection, enhanced by leading niche players in the hydraulic and structural maritime engineering. We also have a large number of experts in consulting companies and smaller niche solution providers.

Belgium has three world leading (semi privately operated) ports (in a short distance of each other), which are very competitive and very well operated.

We aim to share our expertise, to help Indonesia progress!
