Master Cook #1 - Archar

Master Cook is a series of unique cooking programmes by caregivers and people living with dementia. The objective of this segment is to prepare nutritious and quick-fix meal for your loved ones and yourself to enjoy. Simple and easy recipe allows your loved ones to participate in the cooking process. Sharing a meal together encourages deep connection between people as eating the same food suggests that we are both bringing the same thing into our bodies.Familiar food connects us to the past, to our memories, to our family, to an event or incident, a special moment or day, to friends, sometimes to strangers. It connects us to the mysterious lands never visited or places we have been. Familiar taste of the food connects our senses and triggers stories to be told.Story This dish brings back such memories of mommy cooking in the kitchen. She will always prepare this achar as a side dish to compliment the main fare like belachan stuff in Kuning etc. Sometimes, she will also prepare a huge tupperware of this achar and share them with our neighbours. So whenever I taste this achar, with it's bright array of colours, the different textures of the various ingredients, it will always brings me back to a time when mommy is cooking for the family.

Danny Raven TanDanny, a 54-year-old caregiver for his 88-year-old mother, who is living with dementia, will share a simple Perenakan recipe. It is a quick fix Peranakan starter whom his mother used to make for the family to complement their daily meals when he was young.
