Join us for a practical, informative workshop that focuses on human anatomy of the spine and empowers you with the knowledge of a yoga practice to strengthen your spine, release tension and alleviate back pain, so you can regain freedom in your spine, your back and your life.

ABOUT YOUR SPINE / BACK & WHY IT MATTERS

Your spine has three major functions: Protecting the spinal cord and associated nerve roots, providing structural support and balance to maintain an upright posture and enabling flexible motion. Your spine is the backbone of your ability to move, sleep and function properly. Most of your movements originate from your spine, so taking care of your cervical (upper) and lumbar (lower) spine are the key to ensuring a healthy and happy life.

SIX DEGREES OF FREEDOM IN YOUR SPINE

Your spine is dynamic and each functional spinal unit has six degrees of Freedom - i.e. it can move in 6 different directions: flexion, extension, axial rotation, laterolateral shear, anteroposterior shear, axial compression/decompression. For functional living, it's important for the spine to have both mobility (flexibility twist to look behind us, to fold forward to pick up something etc) and stability (to lift and carry objects without risk of injury).

YOGA FOR BACK PAIN WORKSHOP

In this workshop, you'll learn how to release long held tension in different areas of your back. We will look at how a yoga practice can promote stability, mobility and fluidity in your spine to release tension and alleviate back pain! Leave feeling relaxed and with a deep sense of balance and relief.

This workshop is suitable for all levels including beginners to yoga.

WORKSHOP FLOW:

- INTRODUCTION TO SPINE / BACK HEALTH: We begin with a short lecture on the anatomy of the spine, your back and common causes and types of back pain (Muscle sprain, ligament strain, postural syndrome, sciatica, piriformis syndrome, SI joint misalignment etc.), and address any burning questions prior to commencing the asana (posture) practice.

- YIN YOGA FOR MOBILITY: You will be guided to safely mobilize your spine in all six directions, while maintaining it's natural, neutral position. By staying longer in each of the postures (2-5 mins), you allow gravity to help you to compress and decompress your spine, building bone strength and stretching connective tissue.

- YANG YOGA FOR STABILITY: You will engage your core muscles to create stability, shorter holds (5-7 breaths), incorporating repetition to build endurance, protecting the spine and back. flows through yoga movements drawing out the primary postural patterns of: flexion, extension, lateral, elongation, rotation and neutral spine.

- SOMATIC YOGA FOR FLUIDITY: You will be guided through gentle somatic movements, focusing on how it feels inside rather than how the pose looks like from the outside. By focusing on freedom of movement, giving spaciousness between the joints and especially the spine, you'll learn to release your own back muscles, finding more fluidity and freedom in your spine.

- SOUND HEALING FOR RELAXATION & RELIEF : You will be immersed in beautiful sounds and vibrations that are healing for your body and mind. The session takes you on a journey of deep relaxation, healing and self discovery. The sounds and vibrations affect the body at a cellular level since every organ and every cell in the body vibrate at a particular frequency. Deemed as the medicine of the future, the waves of sound will calm your nervous system and restore harmony in your body - bringing the power for pain relief.

Workshop size will be kept small (10 maxmimum) to allow for greater attention and hands-on adjustments.

Mats are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Ccome dressed in comfortable attire ready to move.

YOGA WITH WENLIN

Originally from Singapore, Wenlin has been a student of movement since she was little, starting with dance, martial arts (Kendo) and later Contact Improvisation, Yoga and Thai Massage. Teaching since 2016, certified by Yoga Alliance and CPR trained, Wenlin is trained to teach various styles including:Vinyasa flow, Hot flow, Yin, Restorative, Massage, Chair Yoga, Kid’s Yoga. She primarily teaches at YogaUnion, Turin’s leading Yoga studio, and leads workshops & masterclasses in Asia & Europe. Recently she has taught at Brighton Yoga Festival, UK & Obonjan island private Resort, Croatia. Sample her classes here

SOUND HEALING WITH JASZ

A sound healing coach, Jasz works with sounds to heal and transform the lives of people, using instruments such as the singing bowls, tuning forks, drums, flutes, chimes, and others. She has spent years studying vibrational medicine and has learned about yoga and healing therapies in Singapore, India, France, Australia and other parts of the world. A Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher, Jasz specialises in yoga therapy (RYS 300, Yoga Alliance).

Jasz is the co-founder of the Senses Therapy, a boutique yoga studio in Singapore, and also a Reiki Master Teacher, a healer, and a meditation teacher who facilitates energy healing workshops as a registered teacher with the Ashati Institute, one of the world’s leading providers and creators of energy healing and ascension programmes.
