7 Mar BES Drongos Petai Trail Walk
Event Information
About this Event
Ever wanted to explore the wonders of MacRitchie Reservoir, where flora and fauna abound? Perhaps you need an extra pair of eyes to spot those cryptic critters? Or maybe you just want a morning away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Whatever your purpose, BES Drongos is proud to take you on a free guided walk into our biggest nature reserve, as we share with you about the history and relevance of MacRitchie, a story our forests would tell if they could speak.
Just sign up, show up and let us do the rest.
Set foot on the Petai Trail, a boardwalk trail (part of the longer Prunus-Petai Trail) located at the east end of MacRitchie Reservoir Park. Consisting of a gravel path and a boardwalk, the Petai Trail is relatively level and hence is suitable for people of all ages.
Note: Starting this year, BES Drongos will be organising concurrent walks at Pasir Ris Mangroves! As such, there will be 2 simultaneous walks each day – 1 at MacRitchie and 1 at Pasir Ris. Do join us on our Mangrove Boardwalks sometime :)
In line with the current COVID-19 safe distancing measures, each walk can accommodate a maximum of 8 people, consisting of 3 guides and 5 participants.
Length: Approximately 3km
Duration: 2.5 hours
Meeting time: 8.45am (We begin promptly at 9am.)
Meeting place: Mushroom Cafe at the toilet hut near the entrance of MacRitchie Reservoir Park. The nearest bus stop is MacRitchie Reservoir, served by buses 52, 74, 130, 132, 162, 162M, 163, 165, 166, 167, 852, 855. It is also within walking distance from Caldecott MRT Station.
Recommended attire: Long pants and covered walking shoes
Bring: Your own water bottle, umbrella/poncho, insect repellent and cap/hat
*Please avoid bringing plastic bags as the monkeys have learnt to associate them with food! If you must, do keep them out of sight (e.g. in your backpack) from the monkeys when walking the trail. Eating on the trail is also not encouraged.*
In case of wet weather, we may delay the start of the walk and continue if it's a light drizzle, or postpone to another date if unable to proceed. In case of severe haze (i.e. PSI above 100), we will call off the walk and notify you via SMS by 7.30am.
Lastly, if you feel unwell and/or develop flu-like symptoms nearer to the day of the walk, we strongly advise you to rest at home. As such, if you will not be showing up, please inform us by emailing besdrongos@gmail.com or messaging your guide for that day. A reminder email will be sent to you one day before your walk, which contains your lead guide's contact number and other important information. Do look out for it!
For general enquiries only, please email besdrongos@gmail.com or contact 90467337.
Please note that photos taken on the walk may be used for publicity purposes.
