Description

The Imperial Stone

Understanding the basics of jade

In our Asian culture, this green coloured stone is a very important gem due to the history and traditions related to it. "Jade" is a general term that was used since hundreds of years ago. It was not until 1863, where the French mineralogist, Alexis Damour, discovered that "jade" is in fact a term used to describe both JADEITE and NEPHRITE, which are two very distinct minerals.

In this module, we will learn about the differences and the importance of both materials in the market today. Using gemological equipment, we will also learn the practical skills of identifying imitation from jade.

Content:

  • History of Jade

  • Jadeite vs Nephrite

  • Differentiating jadeite from imitation

  • Using microscope and refractometer to practically identify jade and imitation

* Price stated includes 1 piece of jade specimen for your future reference!

Prerequisites: Completion of all Level 1 modules or 1-day Gemstone Fundamental workshop

NOTE: Each intake is 12, if less than 5 paid registrants, the institute reserves the right to postpone to a later date.
