AI in healthcare: should we break the black box?
Event Information
About this event
Artificial Intelligence has long promised to transform medicine. But despite these promises, there are serious obstacles to deploying AI in clinical practice.
Many of the AI models coming out of research fail to meet the transparency requirements of clinicians, patients and regulators. These "black box" algorithms leave clinicians and patients in the dark about how the model works. Do such algorithms have a place in medicine, or should researchers break the black box and insist on developing more transparent solutions? Should we insist on knowing what`'s going on beneath the surface, or should we blindly trust algorithms to make medical decisions?
We try to answer these and other questions in an interactive discussion.
