At Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road), our approach towards students’ assessment has evolved since 2010, with the introduction of the Understanding by Design curriculum planning model and the pervasive use of 1:1 (1 student to 1 learning device) as a key pedagogical strategy. In this presentation, we will detail how our school has approached formative and summative assessments and describe how they are anchored on pedagogical considerations and technological development. We will also explain how the underlying principles of Assessment for Learning by Jan Chappuis are used to inform the Understanding by Design curriculum planning model, and how the implementation of assessments is strengthened through formal and informal modes of professional development as well as through the creation of supporting systems and processes.
