Join us for a panel discussion with successful angel investors to gain insights into their angel investing experience. Our remarkable guests are industry experts and seasoned investors who have helped many entrepreneurs and businesses to effectively bring their ideas to life.

Keynote speeches preceding the panel, will provide introduction into the current landscape and legalities of angel investing, as well as challenges of investing in the companies of a digital era. This networking event, will be an evening of discussion and thoughtfully curated networking opportunities.

Brick & Mortar vs Tech Investing

How is investing in a tangible brick & mortar business different from an intangible tech company? Elaine and John share about their experiences investing in both side of the angel investing coin. They will also discuss altered ROI expectations, key trends, insights and other things to look out for.

Legal Primer: Angel Investing

As a seasoned corporate lawyer with deep domain knowledge of the finance industry, Mark will reveal the legalities of angel investing. He recommends a due diligence process that focuses on the essential factors that must be evaluated for a new startup, and highlight areas that will underpin risks. Mark will also present the various instruments for angel investments such as equity and debt convertibles.


Dr Elaine Kim, CEO of CRIB

Elaine is the co-founder and CEO of CRIB, a non-profit social enterprise that empowers women to become successful entrepreneurs. She is also a medical doctor, entrepreneur and travel journalist. Elaine cofounded Trehaus, Singapore’s first co-working space with adjacent child-minding facilities. An experienced entrepreneur and angel investor, her other businesses include Trinity Bridal in Hong Kong and Trinity Gallery in Singapore. Elaine was selected as a Young Global Leader (YGL) by the World Economic Forum. She is also an ambassador for SNOW (Say “No to the Oppression of Women”), a UN Women initiative.

John Kim, Managing Partner at Amasia

John’s career has taken him across a diverse range of operating and investing environments from early stage startups to fortune 500 companies. Before founding cross border venture capital firm Amasia, John served as Senior Vice President at Mercuria Energy Group, Executive Director at Goldman Sachs and Portfolio Manager at Korean National Investments. He managed trading and investment strategies across a diverse set of asset classes including commodities, public and private equity, fixed income and derivatives. John is also a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations, a Kauffman Fellow and a Member of the Young Leaders Circle at the Milken Institute.

Mark Jacobsen, Partner at RHTLaw Taylor Wessing

Mark Jacobsen is a Partner (Foreign Lawyer) at RHTLaw Taylor Wessing. Having spent most of his career in APAC, Mark has advised a wide range of clients–from bulge-bracket banks and global asset managers to start-up fintech companies – in cross-border transactions and project structuring. Mark’s practice focuses on innovative and novel deals and business models, acting as lead counsel to Singapore’s first robo-advisor and first debt and equity crowdfunding platforms, first blockchain incorporation agent and smart contracting platform, and Singapore’s first and second successful Sandbox applicants, among others.

Dr Virginia Cha, Professor-in-Residence, SIM Platform E

Virginia is a highly sought-after professor of innovation and entrepreneurship in Singapore with multiple appointments at Singapore’s leading tertiary education institutions: Professor-in-Residence at Platform E (a member of SIM), Adjunct Professor at INSEAD, Adjunct Professor at NUS Business School and other adjunct appointments at SMART and Lean LaunchPad @Singapore.

Andrew Vranjes, Head of Startup Ecosystem at Amazon Web Services, ASEAN

Andrew, based in Singapore, is currently the Head of Startup Ecosystem at AWS, ASEAN. He has held leadership roles at Cisco Systems and Optus previously. Andrew’s professional experiences lie at the intersection of technology, startups, investing and corporates. He has been investing in technology startups for over 10 years, with around 45 investments and 8 exits over this period.

Shao-Ning Huang, Partner/Co-Founder at AngelCentral

Having co-founded JobsCentral in 2000, Shao-Ning has been investing in, advising and mentoring startups since 2009. Her vast experience is a cornerstone in supporting startups. Currently she is focused on educating angel investors to better uplift startups. The sole intention of AngelCentral is to provide strong investment pipelines to Southeast Asian angels. It also serves as a platform for training for angel investors.

Carlos Camacho (Moderator), Head of Investments Development at Fundnel

Carlos is responsible for driving growth initiatives for the platform’s investor base and deal origination pipeline. Prior to joining Fundnel, he was a Manager for the Wholesale Distribution team at Threadneedle Investments in Singapore, covering the Southeast Asian markets. He has also served as an analyst for Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Global Treasury Solutions group in Singapore, focusing on Financial Institutions in Southeast Asia and Australia.
