Sharing about the National Archives of Singapore’s oral history project on the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore

About this event

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed and is still changing the world in fundamental ways. How can oral history help us make sense of an ongoing crisis? In this session, Senior Specialist (Oral History) Mark Wong will share about the National Archives of Singapore’s oral history project on the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore. He will show the value of oral history when documenting a crisis and highlight the innovative ways he and his team explored in order to carry out this project under difficult circumstances. Mark will also highlight some preliminary findings from the project.

About the Speaker

Mark Wong is Senior Specialist (Oral History) at the Oral History Centre (OHC), National Archives of Singapore. His interviews cover the Japanese Occupation, education, sports and the performing arts, and he is presently leading the OHC’s project on Singapore’s COVID-19 experiences. He is also Vice-President of the International Oral History Association.
