Come join Stanley (Ashtanga Yoga Authorised level II teacher) for a weekend of Ashtanga practice from the lineage of Sri K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore India. With over 10 years of Ashtanga practice and teaching experience, Stanley will take you through a powerful journey of self-discovery and transformation that will propel your practice to the next level.


Saturday, 28 July

Session 1 : Discovering the Essence of Ashtanga Yoga through Tristana (9:30 am – 11:30 am)

Tristana is known as the three importance forms of Ashtanga yoga practice. It is the key essence of the practice to attain the union of self. With this union brings forth the fluidity, lightness in movement, purification of the body, nervous system and ultimately the mind. Stanley will use this session to set the foundation of the practice, exploring the mechanism of breath relating to movement and deepening the path of concentration.

Session 2 : From Ground Up to Freedom (1:00pm to 3.00 pm)

Students will learn the primary focus of standing postures in Ashtanga yoga. Good standing posture strengthens the bandhas, and opens the hips to gain freedom in movement and prepare for sitting postures. You will be enlightened about Sun Salutations A and B, and discover the evolution of standing postures of the Ashtanga Primary series.


Sunday, 29 July

Session 3 : Opening Your Heart (9:30 am – 11:30 am)

Never mind the shape of backbend – what matters most is the constant repetition of movement that leads to a more compassionate method to attain freedom in the heart. Love thy self and stop hurting the back! Technique, restriction and hinders of backbend will be discussed.

Session 4 : Own Your Unique Practice! (1:00pm to 3.00 pm)

Explore your individual unique body for Ashtanga practice, find creative methods of practice to minimise exhaustion. Understand what causes discomfort, burning out, and how to cope with your practice during that period but still sustain the essence of it. Both traditional and modern methods will be shared. If you are keen to prolong your interest in Ashtanga yoga, this session is for you!
