Description

Overview

Given the key role of workplace learning in the SkillsFuture agenda aimed at promoting skills deepening and career progression for all Singaporeans, it is imperative for all organisations to enhance their workplace learning affordances. This includes how the workplace provides opportunities for learning, and how individuals elect to engage in activities with the support and guidance provided at work. The what, when, and how of learning as experienced by staff at work directly impacts their ability to perform effectively on the job and the organization’s productivity goals and bottomline.

To help organizations fulfil their workplace learning potential, IAL has developed the Index for Learning@Work diagnostic available on the learningatwork@ial.edu.sg website. The diagnostic provides a no cost and fuss-free way to enable organizations to do a “health-check” of their workplace learning readiness. The diagnostic results form the basis for a more structured workplace learning intervention to support the organization in achieving its performance and human resource development goals.

Learning Outcome

After the workshop, learners should be able to:

  • Illustrate the various conditions that impact the quality of workplace learning and performance
  • Access the various IAL resources and platforms that organizations can tap on to address performance needs through workplace learning
  • Develop an action plan to use the Index for Learning@Work diagnostic to assess one’s organization workplace learning readiness and take follow-up steps to address any performance or business needs.

Who Should Attend

This workshop empowers the following CET professionals:

  • Training Management: programme manager, training manager, business development manager, education technologist, training consultant
  • Human Resource Development: human resource specialist, learning & development manager, organizational planner, training manager, consultant
  • Adult Education: trainer, coach, facilitator, educator, assessor, instructional designer

It is also recommended for anyone in a managerial position keen to explore ways of improving his/her team’s performance at work.

About The Speaker

Poi Shan is presently Assistant Director, Learning and Professional Development Division (LPDD) at the Institute of Adult Learning (IAL). She plays a leading role in IAL’s initiatives aimed at enhancing workplace and work-based learning practices to improve organisational productivity and employee performance. This includes the development of an organisation diagnostic tool, Index for Learning@Work, to profile the current state of workplace learning as the basis for further interventions. She also oversees a certification programme aimed at grooming a pioneer group of professional workplace learning facilitators that can offer consultancy to enterprises.

Poi Shan is also a keen advocate of innovative pedagogical adult learning practices that leverage technology and e-learning effectively. She conceptualised and developed a WSQ Specialist Diploma in Advanced Facilitation launched in Mar 2015 that integrates both vertical expertise in learning design and facilitation and horizontal skills such as personal branding to enhance employability and professionalization. It also advocates a blended learning and work-based project approach for better transfer of learning and performance. She also spearheaded the development of three Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) that adopts game-play scenarios for enhanced learner interactivity and engagement.
