About the Programme
Behind the Lens: See the streets through the eyes of a street photographer with this sharing session by Benjamin.
Street photography is a genre of photography that anyone with a camera in hand can do and sometimes even unconsciously does it. But what does street photography really mean, and how does one engage in it?
Acclaimed street photographer, Joel Meyerowitz, succinctly summarises his practice as “Photography is about being exquisitely present.” Come join us in this upcoming street photography webinar as we unpack the meaning of Meyerowitz’s words for street photography and what it’s all about. We will also talk about how you can kickstart your street photography journey in Singapore and what benefits does it bring for us as photographers.
About the Speaker
Benjamin started his journey in photography in 2014, together with his first solo travel experience. He is a practicing street and toy photographer, and had his works put up in various exhibitions, a notable recent showcase was at the 17th Ngee Ann Photographic Exhibition in 2022.
Ben is also a trained social worker and believes in the benefits that photography can have on our mental health. He has curated a photography exhibition for the Singapore International Photography Festival 2022, titled “Mental Pictures” (https://mentalpictures.art/), that focuses on local film photographers’ take on mental health. “Don’t try, don’t know” has been his mantra, and failures have been commonplace in his journey. Yet, he is still doing it by some form of stubbornness in him.
