About this event

Rebut peluang ini untuk ke langkah seterusnya sebagai seorang penulis buku kanak-kanak. Sertai siri bengkel ini yang akan membantu anda mengembangkan dan mengasah kemahiran anda untuk menulis buku-buku bagi pembaca berumur 8-12 tahun dalam bahasa Melayu.

Para peserta akan mempelajari pelbagai elemen yang digunakan untuk menghasilkan naratif yang menarik, serta teknik-teknik yang menyentuh tentang struktur cerita dan bahasa. Para peserta juga akan dibimbing sepanjang siri bengkel ini untuk menghasilkan sebuah manuskrip di akhir siri ini.

Program bersiri ini merangkumi empat bengkel. Peserta dikehendaki untuk

  • Hantarkan satu idea cerita (idea story) yang akan dikembangkan sewaktu bengkel tersebut
  • Kongsi apa yang anda harap dapat diperolehi daripada bengkel ini
  • Hadir untuk keempat-empat bengkel (pada 13 dan 20 November, serta 4 dan 11 Disember 2021)

Pendaftaran tidak lengkap tidak akan diterima.

Sesi ini akan berlangsung melalui wadah Zoom. Para peserta tidak memerlukan akaun Zoom untuk menyertai sesi ini.

Take the next step forward in becoming a children's book writer by participating in this workshop series designed to help you develop and hone your skills in writing middle grade books in Malay.

Participants will learn more about the various elements that go into crafting an appealing narrative, as well as tips and techniques on story structure, pacing and language. Participants will be guided throughout the sessions to create a working story manuscript by the end of the programme.

This is a series for four workshops. Participants are required to

  • Submit a story idea which they will work on in the course of the workshop
  • Share what they hope to gain from the workshops
  • Commit to all four sessions (13 , 20 November, 4 and 11 December 2021)

Incomplete registrations will not be accepted.

The session will be conducted via the Zoom platform. Participants do not need a Zoom account to take part in the session.

Fasilitator / Facilitator

Nur Khairiah ialah seorang pendidik dan pengkarya pelbagai disiplin seni. Beliau telah menulis dan melukis buku bergambar kanak-kanak, novel remaja, zine berunsur pendidikan dan antologi fiksyen pendek dalam bahasa Melayu dan Inggeris. Bermula dengan blogging pada tahun 2000, beliau menghasilkan buku bergambar kanak-kanak pertamanya secara swaterbit pada tahun 2014 dan menjadi penulis novel remaja di Malaysia pada tahun yang sama. Nur Khairiah juga pernah memenangi beberapa anugerah dalam pertandingan blogging, sastera kanak-kanak dan puisi di Singapura. Karya-karyanya pernah dipamerkan di Book Illustrators Gallery 2017 dan PLACES Pop-Up Exhibition 2015, sebuah program mentor penulisan dan ilustrasi oleh Lembaga Perpustakaan Negara dan Majlis Seni Kebangsaan, Singapura.

Nur Khairiah is an educator and multidisciplinary artist. She has authored and illustrated picture books, young adult novels, educational zine and short fiction anthologies in English and Malay languages. In 2000, she started blogging before self-publishing her first picture book in 2014 and making her debut as a young adult fiction novelist in Malaysia on the same year. She has also received recognition and writing awards for blogging, children’s literature and poetry competitions in Singapore. Her works have been showcased at Book Illustrators Gallery 2017 and PLACES Pop-Up Exhibition 2015, an annual writing and illustration mentorship programme by National Library Board and National Arts Council, Singapore.

Cancellation:

The workshop can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the workshop date if the minimum number of participants is not met.

About Beyond Words

Developing Children's Literature: Beyond Words is programme designed to develop middle grade writers in the Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages.

Beyond Words comprises a series of programmes, including talks, panels, workshops and mentorships which are intended to nurture middle grade writers in Chinese, Malay and Tamil with the potential to support the publication of selected manuscripts both in print and as digital and audio books.

This programme is supported by the National Arts Council of Singapore and Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents who have attended the programmes are eligible to submit a manuscript for the mentorship scheme and for publication support.
