Description

Overview

BIM has been implemented in many organisations but underutilised with no document of results. How can you as professional set up your BIM project for success? And how can an organisation find success with BIM with concrete evidence?

Core Principles of BIM: People, Process, and Technology is the first part of Integrated BIM Masterclass series developed to guide your journey towards BIM adoption and implementation success.

The course will provide you with a fundamental grounding on BIM to be able to outline and deliver successful BIM projects. You will also benefit from lessons learned and sharing of best practices coming from operation experience to get you started right with BIM.

Learning objectives

After this programme, you will be able to:

  • Explain what is BIM and its benefits in the organisation’s efficiency and productivity.

  • State BIM philosophy, tools and process available.

  • Explain concepts of BIM implementation within an architectural, engineering, construction, and drafting office environment.

  • Define the lifecycle of BIM during concept, design, construction, and operations.

  • Describe the importance of embedding building design data to produce effective model.

  • Explain continuous training implications related to BIM Implementation

Course structure

    • BIM Overview

    • Comparison between old and new.

    • BIM execution plan and requirements to be BIM capable.

    • Familiarization with 3D models.

    • Facilities management to reduce operational expenditures through optimized preventive maintenance and energy consumption.

    • What is BIM used for during concept, design, construction and operation?

    • Ever changing tools and technologies / being change enablers / current hurdles for adoption.

    • Variations and Claims

                Who should attend?

                • Architects, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Builders, Contractors, and Developers

                • Anyone who wants to know what BIM is all about, its capability and the required preparation for adoption

                About the trainer

Dr. John Rogers, Executive Director, thinkBIM Malaysia

John specialises in digitalising the built environment, a sector in which he has spent much of his career. His expertise is in the adoption of BIM (Building Information Modelling), the disruptive digital technology revolutionising the built environment by optimising the design, delivery and use of buildings. John undertakes his own BIM modelling on small projects and BIM manages larger projects with international teams.

For the Malaysian government, he was an author of the Construction Industry Transformation Plan (CITP) 2020, the National BIM Guide and has developed strategic initiatives for off-site, modular construction.

Recently, he has advised on bilateral trade development between UK and Malaysia, supporting Smart City technology export plans for UK government and business, and is a part-time Assistant Professor teaching strategy to MBA students. Prior to this, he managed the digitalisation of telecoms and banking organisations.
