Event description
Sunbirds, kingfishers and hornbills – Spot the birds which call Pasir Ris home with bird photographer Mervyn Soon.

About this event

As early as 6.30am in the morning, birdwatchers and photographers gather at Pasir Ris Park to catch the many bird species that nest there! Join long-time Pasir Ris boy Mervyn on a tour of Pasir Ris Park to identify these gorgeous birds, find the best sunrise spots and most importantly, meet the friendly birdwatchers!

Meet Mervyn!

Hello everyone, I am Mervyn! I have been living in Pasir Ris for over 30 years and I started ‘birding’ during the pandemic. What draws me to ‘birding’ is the surprise factor where you can never expect what you are going to see. You may come looking to photograph a certain species but nature may surprise you with another. There is an unpredictability to it and I have the most fun when I surrender my expectations to nature and appreciate whatever is there on that day.

‘Birding’ has also helped me make new friends and brought me closer to my neighbours in Pasir Ris! We share our sightings, our equipment and most importantly, our stories and experiences through this common interest. I cannot wait to bring you around Pasir Ris Park to share with you more about the birdwatching community here and some photography tips and tricks this coming September!

Organiser My Community Festival

Organiser of Birdwatching @ My Pasir Ris with Mervyn Soon

My Community Festival is a ground-up initiative showcasing Singapore’s best kept secrets and community stories through immersive tours, tastings and other cultural and heritage experiences.

4 Things To Know About The Festival

  • It is curated in collaboration with heritage practitioners, business owners, legacy brands as well as a number of religious and cultural institutions.
  • It builds upon the demand for culinary travel, cultural exploration and activity-based travel experiences - evident from the consumption habits of locals and tourists alike.
  • It aims to connect people from all walks of life through the festival platform in the hopes that they may go on to expand their social networks.
  • The festival has taken on an added dimension as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It serves as a means in which to re-introduce locals back to the island’s ethnic enclaves and to support local, legacy establishments in a triumphant display of resilience as a community. Let’s come together to celebrate the Singaporean spirit after a challenging 2020.
