Thought you knew everything about everyone's favourite rice dish? Think again.
Or come to Biryani/Beriani, a Culture Kitchen production, aimed at bringing unlikely dinner companions together over great food.
The idea is simple: Singaporeans, residents and anyone with an interest in food and culture come together on Sunday, 22 September, to eat awesome biryani together with expats and migrant workers from Pakistan, Bangladesh and India.
Find out about how the subcontinent is so large and varied that each state has dozens of completely different types of biryani. Each little difference — 'dum' or not-'dum', choice of meats, types of rice used — reflects the diversity of a subcontinent with many stories to tell. Learn more about how the dish travelled from Persia to Singapore by way of India.
Most importantly, come to listen to the stories of the people who have come to Singapore to make this their home, even if only for a while. You never know what you'll find in a box of biryani!
