Blockchain and cryptocurrency has been a trending topic that has garnered the interest of many around the world. In this session, learn about this hot topic of Blockchain, from what it is, how it is used in and outside Singapore and what impact it has on the future.

This programme features Republic Polytechnic lecturer, Dr Tan Lee Kiat, and industry speakers, Benjamin Tan and Joanne Ng.

About the Speakers


		Blockchain and Its Uses  | Future of Work image

Dr Tan Lee Kiat is a Senior Lecturer who teaches Blockchain in a local Polytechnic. Prior to becoming an Academic, he has more than 10 years of financial industry experience, which entails managing banking application development and integrations. His domain expertise lies in FinTech, payment, cards and digitalisation technologies. Dr Tan’s interest in Blockchain started in 2016 when he attended the sharing by the platform providers from MAS Project Ubin. Since then he had worked on several Blockchain-related projects and is a Corda Certified Developer.

Benjamin Tan is a Backend Lead at Contour. In his previous role at R3, he oversaw a variety of proof-of-concept projects and was a technological advisor for a range of leading Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) projects across Asia. He also helped to educate financial institutions and spread awareness of developments in distributed ledger technology across the APAC region.

Ben has almost a decade of experience in fintech related to hardware/software development, corporate venturing, start-ups and business consulting.

Prior to R3 and Contour, Ben founded his own fintech firm focused on developing innovative payment, CRM and e-commerce projects. Some of these utilized blockchain and distributed ledger technology. Before that he was a Senior Consultant with EY Australia, in their Technology and R&D practice and an Engineer with Finisar Corp in Silicon Valley, developing products to access new strategic markets.

Ms Joanne Ng joined Singapore Exchange (SGX) in February 2021 as the Innovation Lead in its Technology Unit.

As Innovation Lead, Ms Ng leads the Unit's technology innovation strategy, initiates key innovation projects between technology and business departments, as well as promotes the development of an innovation culture within SGX.

Ms Ng has extensive experience in FinTech advisory and blockchain community partnerships across Asia. Prior to joining SGX, Ms Ng headed regional marketing efforts, localised business development strategies and established community engagements across several industries as Head of Marketing in Asia in R3 Singapore.

Ms Ng holds a Master of Arts in Media, Culture and Communications degree from New York University.
