Description

Airbnb, one of the most talked-about start-ups, has grown into a leading global travel community that offers end-to-end trips, including where you stay, what you do and the people you meet. Besides their accommodation marketplace, which offers access to more than 4.5 million places to stay in more than 191 countries, they also offer Airbnb Experiences. These Experiences reveal a different side to a destination through unique activities run by locals.

Hear from Sriram Vaidhya (Head of Airbnb Trips, Southeast Asia & India) on the Airbnb Experiences story. Sriram will be joined by Calvin Soh (Entrepreneur and Airbnb Experience Host, One Kind House). Calvin designed One Kind House as a 21st century kampong - a home for the future, built on the past. It combines tradition and technology - soil and hydroponic farming, with innovation at its core. Discover how Calvin’s family inspires through their Airbnb Experience by teaching guests how to grow their own crops with their Kickstarter-funded self-watering invention, and harvest plants to cook a three-course meal.

About the Speakers
Sriram Vaidhya, Head of Airbnb Trips, Southeast Asia & India
Sriram runs the Airbnb Trips business for Southeast Asia and India, based in Singapore. He is tasked with building thriving communities of Experience hosts and entrepreneurs, and growing Airbnb's presence as a hospitality leader across the region. Before joining Airbnb, Sriram looked after Developer Relations at Apple Inc., covering various Asian markets. He co-founded a social network startup in Spain, and began his career on Wall Street in quantitative and technology roles. He holds graduate degrees from Columbia University, and an undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University in the United States.

Calvin Soh, Airbnb Experience Host, One Kind House
Calvin is an entrepreneur, urban farmer, baker, and chef. He is also the founder and co-founder of several companies like Ninety Nine Percent, and an investor in start-ups to help democratise good. Previously, he took up an advertising job with no prior training and became Asia’s No.1 Creative by Campaign Brief, becoming the youngest Asian head of a regional network before becoming the Vice-Chairman and CCO of Publicis Asia.

In 2012, he left the industry to reinvent himself and prepare his family for an exponential future. Together with his son, Dylan, he authored The Big Red Dot, co-created the FutureMe exhibition with Pico Arts, and came up with the GIY (Grow-It-Yourself) self-watering stick to be launched on Indigogo.
