This Level 2 course is only available to participants who have taken a Brahm Centre Watercolour Florals and Brush Lettering Course or any 4 hours or more Brush Lettering Course.

Participants will progress to a higher level from what basic level to learn different types of font and lettering designs using different pens and markers. This course will begin with a refresher session on the calligraphy basic strokes of minuscule and majuscules and slowly progressing to using of different elements to enhance the beauty of the lettered wordings.

This course aims to focus on Bouncy lettering, explore the usage of watercolour and metallic watercolours to create special effects on lettering, incorporating different fonts and planning the layout of the final piece.

WHAT?

Participants will be able to have a better grasp of the fundamentals of Brush lettering and the rules. Participants will also be equipped with the materials knowledge to choose their ideal choice of papers, pens, markers, brushes and inks for their final artworks. This Level 2 course aims to build strong fundamentals of Brush lettering rules with the re-creation of block letters using different watercolor techniques together with the incorporation of watercolour inks and metallics to enhance the overall outlook of the lettered wording. Focus of the course will be largely on grasping the rule behind Bouncy lettering, explore the usage of metallics to create special effects on lettering, incorporating different fonts and planning the layout of the final piece.

Course Outline (Topics Covered)

Session 1: Refresher on Traditional Brush Lettering Style

Session 2: Introduction to Bouncy lettering and the lettering rule, Bouncy Lettering (Minuscule)

Session 3: Bouncy Lettering (Majuscule), connecting the letters of Majuscule and Minuscule

Session 4: Introduction to the blending technique of brush pens, watercolor inks and metallic, exploring the effects on both white and black watercolor paper, introduction to the different type of brushes used for watercolour lettering

Session 5: Practice on watercolour lettering minuscules using watercolour brush

Session 6: Practice on watercolour lettering minuscules using watercolour brush

Session 7: Exploration on the layout of a quote with measurements

Session 8: Using of different techniques such as colour sprayed backgrounds and splatter technique to create different styles of outcome as card designs

Learning Outcome:

  • Equipped with materials knowledge by choosing the correct paper, brushes and colours
  • Better grasp of Fundamentals of Brush lettering
  • Exploring new fonts and creating quotes in different layouts with brush pens and watercolour medium to create special effects of the lettered wording.

Materials provided: 

All materials required will be provided

Things for participants to bring from home :

  1. Water brushes and Paint palettes (provided during Introduction Watercolour Flora and Brush Lettering Class) 
  2. A container for washing brushes
  3. Two pencil (non-mechanical)
  4. A cloth for cleaning the brushes 
  5. Optional : Any Shiny Metallic Pens or Tombow Brush Pens

Course Fee:

$350 |$70 for seniors eligible for National Silver Academy (NSA) subsidy*

*NSA subsidy is for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents aged 50 and above.

In addition to NSA subsidy, course fee may be offset by SkillsFuture Credit (SFC).

Payment Procedure:

1) Upon registration, course participants are to make payment for the course through Brahm Centre’s Eventbrite page.

2) Participants have to claim with SFC before the course start date through the SkillsFuture portal, https://www.myskillsfuture.gov.sg/content/portal/en/index.html

3) Brahm Centre will reimburse the amount that is successfully claimed upon receipt of the funds from SFC. This procedure can take up to 8 weeks from the course start date.

· Please note that payments for courses are non-refundable.

· There are no make-up lessons if you miss any session.

· If you miss the first session, you are allowed to proceed with the course. However, the trainer is not obligated to do a recap during the second session.

Kathleen is a talented artist whom work mainly on watercolour and acrylic as a medium. She loves to explore all kinds of colourful mediums and found herself to have great interest in painting florals. Recreating what she observes in nature and transforming those inspirations into watercolour art pieces.
