About the Programme/Event

Who gets to move and why? Our borders, what purpose do they serve? And for whom? Where are we when we think of "home"? In Call & Response 2, we explore these questions, not for some fixed meaning, but to honestly feel the emotions, energies and nuances that arise; and from there, situate ourselves in the materiality of migration, our shared yet always partial relationship with nature, and our interconnectedness across causes, borders, and roots. Whether you're an environmentalist or just curious, we welcome all to join us on this journey of holding space.

Chapters discussed:

  • Your Life in Singapore by Benedict Lim paired with Not now by Shivram Gopinath
  • An Open Letter to Mankind; For the Love of Nature by Haidee Roiles paired with The End of the World in Newton by Mrigaa Sethi

During this interactive book club session, run in partnership with Bookjio, we will be reading and discussing both prose and accompanying poems in onsite discussion groups and zoom breakout rooms. You can read the book ahead of the session, or just come with a curious mind to share your thoughts!

About the Club

The Nature Club aspires to be an intergenerational book club (for all ages), creating a space that centres the narratives and discourse that matter so dearly to us. Crises like the climate crisis - among others - often inject moments of ecological grief, hurt and isolation, and it is in such times, when we need to come together as a community and as people. We hope to find some of that in stories; Stories we read in our younger days, stories we may see in a movie or film, and the stories that speak closest to our hearts.
