Event description

Description

Can We Teach Compassion?

Compassion is an emotional response that seeks to address the suffering and needs of a person through relational understanding and action. It is increasingly considered by policy makers, patients and families as a core element of quality person-centered care, especially in palliative care.

However, what does compassionate care look like to patients? Can compassion be taught? Studies have shown a decline in empathy in students during medical education that persists beyond training. How can we maintain compassionate care in the context of an overstretched and busy healthcare system?

Lunch reception would be provided from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm and the session would commence at 1:00 pm.
