Event description
Care Carnival 2019 is a caregiver-led initiative to Connect, Enable and Empower caregivers of children with special needs

About this Event

The Care Carnival is a unique caregiver-led initiative with a vision of building a vibrant and dynamic caregiving community in Singapore. Our mission is to connect, enable and empower our fellow caregivers through sharing of evidence-based knowledge and practices, and building mutually rewarding and synergistic partnerships with professional bodies, community partners and stakeholders.

This year, we will feature an intensive yet holistic 1-day program on 30 November (Saturday) for caregivers of children and youth with specials needs in the Enabling Village. In this care carnival, caregivers will

  1. Learn useful early intervention strategies from Professor RA McWilliam to help their children learn naturally at home and improve family satisfaction with daily living routines
  2. Connect with caregiver support groups and interest-based activity providers. The interest-based activity providers are organized into 6 interest categories, namely Performance art, Sports & Outdoor, Art & Craft, Culinary, Science & Technology, and Horticulture & agriculture
  3. Understand SG Enable’s caregiver initiatives and explore the Enabling Village’s services
  4. Represents caregiver support groups in a networking lunch and focus group discussion with professional representatives and community stakeholders.

Child Engagement in Everyday Routines’ by Prof Robin McWilliam

Children are always learning, and adults are always teaching them. This session will open up a discussion about the learning opportunities that occur at home, in the community, and at school. Participants will hear about the four parenting activities that research has shown to be important for children’s development and functioning. One teaching method that works with all children, in all routines, for all skills will be presented. Finally, we will talk about how these evidence-based realities change the nature of early intervention services—from needs assessment to intervention with children and support of families to meaningful evaluation of our work.

We look forward to an exciting day with you!
