About Chai Talk

Open conversations with people where we share personal stories and truly connect are hard to come by these days. The good old times when people conversed and bonded over tea are getting rarer with many of us rushing through our meal times, eating at our desks or on the go to get to the next task on our to-do list.

In Mutual Works' kampong community, these light-hearted conversations often accompany a warm pot of freshly brewed tea and provide a safe space for us to share what we are going through, have a good laugh and discover new perspectives.

With different members hosting and bringing their own stories to the table, Chai Talk is our way of sharing & extending this safe space to you.

Chai Talk with James

I am a Chinese Singaporean and I started with tea when my mother introduced it to me at a young age. At that time I didn't know much about tea. When I was fifteen, I began my journey by experiencing a beautiful tea session in my teacher's home from China. This was when I realised tea is so much more than what I thought. There are complexities in flavour, body, scent and purpose. I deep dove into learning about the art of brewing tea in Yun Nan, China after that. Tea is from a diminishing culture and I practise Kungfu Tea to keep this tradition alive.

My name is James, I co-founded Undelusional which is a cultural design company that puts people at the heart of the designs.

Structure

As we gather at the start of the session, I will brew teas I have specially acquired from mainland China, one of the finest producers of tea in the world. You will get to experience a traditional tea brewing session with me as I take you through the different notes and tastes that the teas take on as they age. As we savour teas, I will share with you my stories from when I was growing up and we will have conversations about how tea is a space for reflection.

Curated Session

For everyone to enjoy light-hearted conversations over tea, the ideal group size is 6-8 people. If the tickets are sold out for a particular date, feel free to get the tickets for another date or email hello@mutualworks.sg to be notified when new dates are released.

This is a pay-as-you-wish activity led by a member of Mutual Works' kampong community. Collection will be done during the session itself and the funds collected will be used to cover the running costs of the session.
