About this Event

The Awesome Local Cultural Experience - Have a relaxing Sunday afternoon Painting Cherry Blossom and enjoy Afternoon Tea and Dessert, and gain interesting stories and knowledge through the Heritage Guided Tour around the private museum.

This Chinese painting workshop will guide you to paint the Cherry blossom which is the traditional symbol of Spring and Time of Renewal, omen of good fortune, an emblem of love and affection, as well as an enduring metaphor for the fleeting nature of mortality.

Led by experience local painter Huan who started his artistic journey from the age of 7 years old. He is a young and well-versed artist with more than 20 years of experience in painting both Eastern and Western art. For many years, Huan has been sharing and promoting the knowledge of art and skills, such as history of Chinese art painting and the various paint brush techniques at various public courses and events.

Guest will (1) gain understanding of the history of Chinese painting and ancient brush work, (2) learn and practice Chinese painting techniques, (3) enjoy yummy Peranakan kuehs (cakes) over afternoon tea, and (4) gain insights about the Peranakan culture through the heritage guided tour around the private museum. Be ready to be amazed and mesmerised!

Be Soaked in Local Culture:  Be immersed in Singapore's heritage by spending a Saturday afternoon at the Straits Enclave @ Joo Chiat heritage district.  Once you step into the Straits Enclave, it is like taking a step back in time into a different time dimension – 100 years back to a 1920s Peranakan home when these architecturally stunning shophouses were constructed along Joo Chiat. Guests are welcomed by a captivating ambience, followed by a feast for their eyes where they will be tickled with stories behind them. The place provides fascinating insights into the development of this unique culture and heritage that infuses Colonial, Chinese and Malay influences into their living spaces, furniture, deco, art, tapestry, kitchen wares, dressing, and more. 

The Art of Chinese Painting: Guided Steps to Creating your Own Art Piece:  Learn about the origins and craft forms of Chinese painting where one can find them handing on Chinese homes and venues. Learn the traditional Chinese painting technique using the paint brush to create your personal art piece. Huan will guide you along during the workshop and make sure you bring home a paint work to be proud.

Peranakan Afternoon Tea: A visit to a Peranakan home is never complete without a hearty meal of authentic kuehs(cakes) and free flow of coffee and tea.

Guests can stay on after 5pm to perfect their masterpiece or just gossip over tea with new friends. Afterall, (one of) Straits Enclave’s main purpose is to enrich lives, knowledge and memories.
