"I believe in God, Mozart, and Beethoven," Richard Wagner is reputed to have said; Franz Schubert, another musical giant, wrote in his diary, "O immortal Mozart, how many inspired suggestions of a better life have you left in our souls." Mozart lived for just 35 years, but in his lifetime he wrote some of the greatest classical music of all time.

Flashback to 1848 - a great year of revolutions in Europe. Robert Schumann had written various pieces, such as his Opus 62 - three patriotic songs for male chorus - to support the ideals of these revolutions, but by 1849 the aftermath had become all too real. About half of his songs in Liederalbum für die Jugend (Song Album for the Young), Opus 79 was written when he fled Dresden to avoid military conscription, and finished while staying in the tiny village of Kreisca.

Join students from the NAFA vocal faculty in a discovery of the musical world of Mozart and Schumann.
