Event Description

As timber architecture gains momentum globally for its sustainability and aesthetic appeal, how do we address the challenge of material waste—especially from the conversion of logs into structural timber?

In this sharing, Luke Lim Tien Sung, Chief Architect at MJDA, will discuss the global rise of timber construction and present some of MJD’s recent timber projects in Japan. The talk will highlight how the office is using a series of experimental tea houses as design prototypes to rethink timber waste and material efficiency.

The session will also feature The Warp—a 3D-printed timber pavilion that explores new possibilities in digital fabrication with wood-based materials.

The session includes a short talk, an intro to 3D printing, a showcase of 3D-printed pavilion, and a take-home memento for participants.
