Event description
Let foodie Edwin Lim satisfy your sugar cravings with this traditional dessert.

About this event

Ondeh ondeh is a familiar and luscious glutinous rice dessert hiding a gooey gula melaka core and coated in steamed coconut shreds! Take it to the next level with Edwin who will be demonstrating differently coloured versions of the ondeh ondeh!

Meet Edwin!

Hello everyone, I am Edwin, a foodie with a sweet tooth. For me, ondeh ondeh is a simple but satisfying dessert. With just 4-5 ingredients and a pair of illustrious hands, you can start churning out this lovable local dessert in no time! I promise lots of fun as you fashion these cute little sweet potato-glutinous rice balls and of course, eat them and experience that iconic bursting effect!

With the basics of ondeh ondeh covered in this programme, I hope participants will be confident to carry on this aspect of our local heritage by adding their own twists – in flavours and colours - to this local delight! So let’s ONDEH!

Organiser My Community Festival

Organiser of Cuba Gula-Gula Saya: Ondeh Ondeh with Edwin Lim

My Community Festival is a ground-up initiative showcasing Singapore’s best kept secrets and community stories through immersive tours, tastings and other cultural and heritage experiences.

4 Things To Know About The Festival

  • It is curated in collaboration with heritage practitioners, business owners, legacy brands as well as a number of religious and cultural institutions.
  • It builds upon the demand for culinary travel, cultural exploration and activity-based travel experiences - evident from the consumption habits of locals and tourists alike.
  • It aims to connect people from all walks of life through the festival platform in the hopes that they may go on to expand their social networks.
  • The festival has taken on an added dimension as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It serves as a means in which to re-introduce locals back to the island’s ethnic enclaves and to support local, legacy establishments in a triumphant display of resilience as a community. Let’s come together to celebrate the Singaporean spirit after a challenging 2020.
