Event description

Description

It’s Wimbledon season, and with a tennis fever in the air, there’s no better time to introduce the unexpected overlap of tennis and literature!

Whether you’re a tennis fanatic expanding your interest into the literary; a reader who always loved tennis but found no solidarity in fellow bookstagrammers; or a writer interested in the craft of writing about sports scenes, let Noelle Q. de Jesus, author and avid tennis player, break the boundaries of literature and tennis for you.

About Deep Cut
Inspired by the term deep cut—used in the music industry to refer to the b-sides or songs of an artist that are not well known or conventionally played—this year-long series explores both unconventional intersections in literature and the little-known sides to authors.

Our venue partner, Littered with Books, is an independent bookseller in Duxton housing a range of carefully curated literary books!

About the Author
Noelle Q. de Jesus was born in the US, grew up in Manila, and spent most of her adult life as a writer, wife and mother in Singapore. She has published short stories in the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and the US.

Noelle is also author of a chicklit novel, Mrs MisMarriage (Marshall Cavendish International 2008) under her married name, Noelle Chua. She also conceptualized the literary anthology series Fast Food Fiction Short Short Stories To Go (Anvil Publishing Philippines, 2003, 2014), and hopes to edit a Singapore edition in the future.

She has an MFA in Creative Writing from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a concentration in English Literature from Ateneo de Manila University. Blood Collected Stories is her first book of short fiction.

Noelle fell in love with tennis in 2011 when she started taking formal lessons. She began playing league tennis in 2013, and now plays in two leagues—WITS and LTS. She is on the court 3-5 times a week, depending on the state of her chronic aches and pains. She follows both the WTA and the ATP and aspires to see all the grand slams and the Laver Cup. She frequently contributes to The Queens of the Court, a blog and go-to guide for women's tennis in Singapore.
