Description

In the first 100+ years of its existence Telecom industry focused on the stability at the cost of innovation. There was guaranteed profit (though regulated in most countries) due to low operational cost and high margin. The advent of Internet completely changed this balance and forced Service providers to embrace innovation. It has not been easy with the rapidly evolving service landscape with Mobile, Broadband, Video, and Voice services. Industry is finding it challenging to offer differentiated innovative services and stay profitable at the same time. The costs, both capital and operational, are pushing some of the service providers to their extinction. Software and Computing industries are pitching in to solve this problem with their best practices. Several recent technologies - VM, Cloud, OpenStack, VNF, SDN, OpenDayLight, SD-WAN – are starting to appear in service provider and networking solutions. They all share this common objective to “reduce operational and capital cost and at the same time drive profit through innovative services.” This presentation reviews these technologies and how they help Service provider industry to reach their goals. Some of these technologies are presented with suitable demonstration, code walk through, and case studies. In other words, this course attempts to connect the dots – VM, Cloud, VNF, SDN, and SD-WAN.
