Why start early?

Frankly speaking, applying to medical school is a rather tedious and time-consuming process, from researching schools, requesting letters of recommendation to writing your personal statement. Crafting a great medical school application takes deliberate and consistent effort and waiting until you are in the final months of high school is highly discouraged. With the increased workload and added stress from exam preparations, you will definitely not be in best position to submit your most compelling application. Trust us, we have seen countless cases of frantic students scrambling to cobble together a substandard application last-minute.

Still not convinced? Here’s our top reasons why you need to start preparing early and begin drafting your medical school admissions plan:

1. Applying to the right schools makes the process easier: Do you want to study Medicine in Singapore or abroad? There are over 15 SMC-approved medical schools in the UK and more than 7 in Australia so you will want to set aside time to do research and hone in on schools that suit your needs and interests.

2. Take your tests and take them in time: For the UK, the BMAT and UCAT are required and for most Australian medical programs, the ISAT is. These tests can only be taken ONCE a year so giving yourself ample time to prepare is key.

What will we be covering?

We’ll be going over the most crucial aspects of putting in a great medical school application, which include:

  • Reviewing admissions criteria and requirements
  • Constructing a sample admissions plan and timeline
  • Choosing the right schools for you
  • Deciding which tests to take and when (BMAT, UCAT, ISAT)
  • Crafting the personal statement
  • Preparing for interviews and assessments (MMI, SJT)
