About this Event
COMPETITION
Design and create a solution to solve a global problem using the BBC micro:bit. The problem you are solving is to be aligned with any of the world’s 17 Global Goals*.
For ages 8 to 18.
Team size: 1 mentor (teacher/tutor/parent) required. Minimum 2 students, maximum 3 students per team.
REGISTRATION DETAILS
Registration Period: 3 April to 17 July 2021
Registration Closes: 17 July 2021, 11:59 PM
Registration Fee: $7 per person (register individually, every team member needs a ticket. Do fill in your Group's Name.)
Residency Of Participants: Singapore residents ONLY
COMPETITION DETAILS
Live Presentations: held from 23 to 25 July 21, 9AM to 6PM. Individual schedules will be provided when registration closes.
Awards Presentation: 31 July 2021
Location: Online via Zoom
Further competition details will be emailed to all registered participants.
CASH PRIZES TO BE WON
Champion: SG$800 in total ($600 to students, $200 to mentor)
1st Runner Up: SG$400 in total ($300 to students, $100 to mentor)
2nd Runner Up: SG$200 in total ($150 to students, $50 to mentor)
E-certificate of participation provided for all qualifying submissions.

PREPARATION COURSES
The courses are designed to prepare students for the competition. Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop, however, rentals are available. Students are encouraged to bring their own micro:bit, however, the centre will have micro:bits available for sharing.

Hardware: Computer/laptop/tablet. A micro:bit (can be purchased here)
Software: The free Microsoft MakeCode editor

Registration fees are non-refundable.
The Empire Code competition requires students to code their solution.

- What is the age group? 8–18-year-olds
- Do I have to complete the beginner course before advanced? Yes, with little or no micro:bit experience, we recommend starting with the beginner course.
