Learn English-French Styled Embroidery over an Afternoon Tea @ Straits Enclave

About this event

At the workshop, guest will (1) learn English-French Styled Embroidery skills, (2) enjoy yummy Peranakan Kuehs (cakes) for afternoon tea, with free flow of tea and coffee, and (3) be soaked in nostalgic ambience of a Peranakan heritage home.

The Art of English-French Embroidery: Creating your own Embroidery Artwork.   Led by Sue, she started making handmade accessories back in the early 2000s during her university days. With a passion for art and crafts, particularly for needlework and embroidery, Sue makes art pieces to be customised as personal gifts for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, etc. At the workshop, guest will learn the various English-French Styled Embroidery stitching techniques, namely the Back Stich, Chain Stich, Filling Stich, Woven Wheel Stich and French knots, to create your own artwork to be made as gifts or put-on display.

Embroidery Materials are included. Each participant can choose their preferred colours and customise their design base on a design template provided, and get to bring home, 1) 15cm wooden hoop frame, 2) Fabric cloth, 3) Coloured embroidery threads (from DMC, Anchor etc) & 4) Needle & needle threader.

The Awesome & Unique Experience @ Straits Enclave.  Be immersed in our local heritage by spending an afternoon at the Straits Enclave @ Joo Chiat heritage district. Once you step into Straits Enclave, it is like taking a step back in time into a different time dimension – 100 years back into a 1920s Peranakan home when these architecturally stunning shophouses were constructed. Guests are welcomed by a captivating ambience, followed by a feast for their eyes where they will be tickled with stories behind them. The place provides fascinating insights into the development of this unique culture and heritage that infuses Colonial, Chinese and Malay influences into their living spaces, furniture, deco, art, tapestry, kitchen wares, dressing, and more.

Sue will guide you along to complete the embroidery piece during this 4-hour workshop. Guests can stay on after the workshop to perfect their masterpiece or just gossip over tea with new friends. Afterall, (one of) Straits Enclave’s main purpose is to enrich lives, knowledge, memories and make new friends.

There is so much to experience, learn, see, taste and create at Straits Enclave!
