Event description

Description

Dear member of the Energy Research Group at the Center for Advanced Computation, University of Illinois:

It has been nearly 50 years since Clark Bullard, Bob Herendeen and I founded ERG. (You may recall that this acronym is the Greek word for Energy!)

We started around 1970 with a study of the total direct and indirect energy required to deliver soft drinks and beer in throwaway and returnable containers.

Our basic idea was to seek the least energy cost ways of living. ERG grew to nearly 40 people and our use of input-output matrices revolutionized the countries’ view of consumer choice. Over the next dozen years, we produced nearly 300 publications, many still cited today.

We are having a reunion in Urbana on May 12th, 2019 at 4:00 PM. It will be cocktails and dinner and a tour of the campus with plenty of good conversation. We hope you can come.

The event is being organized by former members of ERG, Cutler Cleveland and Peter Fox-Penner, who are now at the Boston University Institute for Sustainable Energy. If you know of other ERG alumni or other close colleagues of ERG, PLEASE LET US KNOW! We would like to welcome all alumni and close colleagues but we lack many emails.

We hope to see you in Urbana on May 21st, 2019.
