Description

The Motomachi area is located on the western side of the foot of Mount Hakodate, which is symbolic of Hakodate. The area used to be the central part of the town.

After the modern government overturned the samurai government, Hakodate thrived as an international port town and had more than ten consulates.

Although the town suffered many big fires, the Western-style buildings, the churches and the Buddhist temples, the houses in the area were rebuilt quickly.

A blend of Western and Japanese buildings makes people feel an exotic atmosphere. You might feel the area brings back your memories.
