Event description

Description

City life, borne out of modernization, is fast disconnecting people from nature. Many Singaporeans, though having an easy access to the trees and parks, do not slow down to enjoy the “Nature Vitamins”, which are so essential to our total well-being.

We belong to nature and we are part of nature. An essential oil released by trees and plants into the atmosphere called phytoncides enhances human natural killer cell activity. It boosts immune functions, fights disease and reduces stress, thus is beneficial to human health. It costs us nothing and it keeps us healthy!

In this session, Fiona will adopt forest therapy as a tool and use various activities to connect participants to nature. Nature will be the teacher while Fiona will be the facilitator. The activities are not physically demanding but they require participants to slow down their pace and engage their different senses.

Come for a different experience and be ready to take a dose of phytoncides that only Mother Nature can provide. The session will end with a short tea ceremony in a natural setting.

About your Host for this session

Fiona was a senior teacher in Outdoor Education. As an outdoor enthusiast, she used outdoor platforms to help students appreciate nature. Since her exit from the teaching service, she has been exploring different forms of eco-therapy and strives to practise them in an urban setting. She experienced horticulture therapy in New Zealand and got acquainted with forest bathing with like-minded individuals recently.

Fiona is now focused on leading trails, with nature as the guide. Using a facilitative approach, Fiona will get participants to go through a few activities to truly experience how nature can speak in its still small voice.

She is also currently exploring horticulture therapy by doing urban farming in her own vegetable plot.

What is Food for Thought?

"Food for Thought” is an initiative by IAF SG where #IAFacilitators (members) initiate small group conversations relating to facilitation over coffee, tea or a cosy meal!

As a "Food for Thought" Host, you can decide how many people you want to invite, the topic of discussion, as well as where and when to meet up. Not only will you get to connect and converse with fellow facilitators over food for thought, you'll discover new insights (and collective wisdom) on the topic you are passionate about!

If you are interested in hosting a conversation, email us at administrator@iaf.sg!

Who is Food for Thought for? Can I attend?

"Food for Thought" events are FREE for IAF Members with the special registration code provided (Just buy your own drink or meal).

If you are an IAF SG member, look out for the special discount code in our email invite, or drop us a note to request for the special code. If you are attending the session, you're welcome to register one other guest free.

If you are not an IAF SG Member yet but want to join us, befriend an IAF SG Member who's attending, and ask them to register you for the session!
