Event description

Description

Off the tourist map in the city, Tank Road and the adjoining Mohamed Sultan Road area has a number of historical sites which are reflective of the rich cultural and religious diversity of Singapore. Other than catering to the spiritual needs of early migrants, these institutions are emblematic of how our ancestors organised themselves and flourished in this land. The sites along our walking route are: Hong San See Temple, Nanyang Sacred Union, The Sri Thendayuthapani Chettiar Temple, The Teochew Building & the Church of the Sacred Heart.

Depending on the weather, the time and the energy levels, we will attempt the grand slam of all five sites.

The meeting point at 8.50am will be Hong San See Temple at 30 Mohamed Sultan Road

Ang Yik Han is a long time SHS member and heritage enthusiast, whose research interests include temples in the region. He conducts regular tours of the Hong San See Temple , which recieved in 2010 the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation and Bukit Brown Cemetery which was a World Monuments Fund site (2014-1216)
