Wearable tech, autonomous systems, chatbot interaction, IoT data streams, smart business processes – the future of the workplace is gaining steam across Asia Pacific and the world, including the Public Sector.

The future of work across all industries is one of the hottest topics of 2018, with the impact of artificial intelligence and robotics on jobs, skills and wages being furiously debated. Is the rapid explosion of technology removing the human element? Will there be enough work left for those employed in the public sector, and what kind of work will it be?

The obvious response is that public sector jobs will continue to play a key role in delivering government services – what is less obvious is the skill sets and capabilities required of public sector employees, and the workplace environment necessary to deliver them effectively. What is the future of work?

OpenGov Asia is pleased to partner with NCS to bring interactive gamification sessions focused on building public sector capacity to address the future of work. Three separate simulations provide government decision makers with eye-opening, jaw-dropping insight into how deeply technology and process innovation is poised to alter public sector employment.


Government Workplace 2.0

As a device centric, connected generation of employees enter the workforce, expectations for “work anywhere”, mobile and time flexible employment options will explode. This will have an increasing effect of security, accessibility and connectivity for the workplace – but an even greater impact on policy, regulation and human resource units and will force a radical rethink regarding what an employee “is”.

Data jockeys, mash-up specialists and ethics gurus. In short, the future government employee is “plugged-in”. Radically increased access to data, more intuitive information management systems and processes, and real-time analytics only accelerates the requirement for future employees to be faster, better, more ethically driven decision makers – something technology cannot provide. The human traits we share are being cast in stark relief to technology, and we need to increase this capacity dramatically. Driving this trend is not the role of IT – it is the role of your human resources team.

Government Work 2.0

Say goodbye to siloes! Business process automation and improvement paired with modern tech is rapidly connecting disparate organisational data, with incredible insight into methods for improving government services. Workplaces of the future focus on data-driven decision making, paired with a workforce of ethically driven decision makers will alter the landscape of government. “Smart Cities” tends to overshadow the trend in “smart work”, but it is no less stunning, and promises to have a greater impact on citizens.

To assist these CIO's, OpenGov has embarked on a journey of exploration, finding solutions and best practice examples to assist CIO's in bridging this knowledge gap.
