Event description
Learn how to make the most of your philanthropic assets; money, time and skills, and how to help and not hinder.

About this Event

Join us for a philanthropy workshop to learn how to make the most of your philanthropic assets; money, time and skills, and how to help and not hinder.

We will cover the different strategies that funders are using to select causes and charities. For example, we will cover principles of evidence-based giving and discuss the pros and cons and discuss whether it can apply to your giving in Singapore and regionally.

We will cover basic principles of shortlisting good charities in Singapore using publicly available information (eg governance checklist, charities' annual reports and charity portal).

We will also cover the expectation gaps between charities and funders and discuss ways to bridge them and how you can use your philanthropic dollars and skills to be a force of good to also assist charities in their effort to become great organisations.

The workshop will draw on real life case studies and use a mixture of discussions and group activities. There will also be many hands on exercises.

Learning outcomes:

• Introduction to the principles of various giving strategies being used worldwide to select causes and charities

• Discussion on the relevance, strengths and weaknesses of each strategy for your giving

• Introduction to the basic principles of shortlisting good charities in Singapore

• Introduction and hands on exercise to the existing resources that you can use to help you in your shortlisting

• Learn about the expectation gaps between charities and funders

• Introduction to The Nonprofit Starvation Cycle

• Learn how you can potentially help instead of hindering charities

Who should attend:

This practical workshop is designed for funders (eg CSR professionals, foundations) to provide them with knowledge and hands on exercises to give and select charities wisely.
