Description

Growing Engagement when it’s All Change

Trying to manage through change? Well, who isn’t? Like they say, “constant change is here to stay.”

But maybe you are trying to manage employee engagement in a truly VUCA environment? Employee engagement is challenging at the best of times, but add in ‘change resistance’, and that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Except…

Based on Elaura’s nearly twenty years of work with teams across diverse global businesses, our observation is that employee engagement is rarely what it seems; and the same could be said for change resistance. It is just possible that we are all misunderstanding (and therefore mismanaging) both phenomena, because we don’t have the right framework to understand how people (ourselves and others) relate to work and change.

Join us for a transformative day of personal and professional development, and learn how Motivation and Perception play together to shape the way we engage or disengage with our roles, especially when everything is in flux.

Programme

The programme combines expert content and reflect learning with highly interactive group exercises and case studies.

The first half of the day will focus on how to manage your own engagement and responses to change. That is for two reasons: obviously it is going to be hard to help fix the organisation, if you are struggling yourself; but more importantly, this personal reflection will help anchor for you the framework which we are going to use to analyse issues around engagement and responses to change, more broadly.

In the second part of the day we will apply that framework to the challenges that you deal with in your own organisation. That includes being able to map more accurately, and then address, the full range of concerns that arise during times of change (whether that involves a formal change programme, or just increased levels of uncertainty and flux); as well as an approach to managing engagement that owes more to well-validated science and less to unreliable engagement surveys.

Outcomes

  • discover how to take practical responsibility for increasing your own engagement;

  • learn what you can personally leverage in order to shape and support change;

  • acquire a simple but effective framework to use with your own team and organisation

Other Benefits

The truth is that engagement is not primarily a top-down management issue; and responses to change are far more nuanced and varied than simple “readiness versus resistance”. That is good news for you and for your organisation: you can stop trying to ‘manage away the negatives’, and instead unlock untapped potential and value in the organisation.

We will be using Birkman Method data to illustrate the issues around motivation and perception which impact engagement and change response. Therefore the programme package includes access to the Birkman Method Questionnaire, which all participants will need to complete prior to the event (but please let us know asap if you have previously completed a Birkman Q).

What's included?

As a participant, you will receive:

  • A personal report and detailed workbook to help you manage your own engagement and responses to change;

  • A proven framework for understanding, predicting and managing employee engagement;

  • A detailed ‘map’ of the possible different perceptions of change across your organisation and how to identify and meet the associated concerns; and

  • Much more, including case studies to rework in small groups and insights into how to identify and manage your own potential blind spots as a leader.

Track record

All the material we are sharing in this transformative one day session has been proven and tested in real life settings over the past two decades. Our clients over that period have included: Microsoft, RBS, NHS, DWP, KPMG, Visa, Coca-Cola, DBS, Severn Trent, Shell, Grohe, Dentsu and many more start-up and SME businesses.

Facilitators

Sarah and Jon Mason are the husband-and-wife team who started Elaura at the beginning of 2000. Since then they have worked with thousands of leaders, managers and other professionals in organisations of every shape and size across the globe, as well as thousands more young people, who preparing for life in the marketplace (via the hoozyu programme). Most of the organisations they have been asked to help have been struggling with the impact of change or uncertainty in some form or other; many have had the additional worry of apparently low (or falling) levels of engagement in their workforce. But things are rarely as they seem, when it comes to people dealing with stressful situations; join Jon and Sarah for this session and learn to ask the right questions of your people - and your data!

Sarah is originally from the UK, is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist, a member of the BPS and CIPD and worked as a Senior Consultant at the Singapore Civil Service College 2011-13. Jon is from NZ, has Masters Degrees from Trinity College Cambridge and NTU in Australia, has collaborated on several best-selling books and even wrote one of his own. They have four adult children.
