Event description
Hands-on Cyber Exercise for Defenders

About this Event

Overview

This is an add-on module to Cybersecurity Industrial Control Systems Engineer.

Workshop Overview:

In the Cybersecurity Industrial Control Systems course, participants would have learned:

• Basic Cyber Physical Systems (CPS)

• Cyber risks and security vulnerabilities in CPS

• Process Control exploitation

• Basic networking concepts necessary for active and passive network discovery

• Network attacks and exploits: different stages of an attack

• Network defence and incident response

What is cyber exercising?

Cyber exercises test the incident response and/or technical response capability of an organisation. They allow organisations to develop and rehearse their incident response procedures and/or technical capability in a safe and controlled manner. They offer a pragmatic way to understand and benchmark the impact of a Cybersecurity incident and allow performance and improvements to be objectively assessed.

Cyber exercising has been developed out of the military concept of training forces to handle challenging situations. They allow organisations and attendees to rehearse their response to dynamic situations. They help to build and validate robust processes and defence mechanisms, and foster effective teamwork.

Why do attendees need to attend this cyber exercise?

Organisation and attendees who are keen to learn additional avenue of:

  • Applying defence techniques and
  • To be able to respond and execute such techniques

Under time pressure and real-world attacks through actual hands-on exercises and team effort.

How are cyber exercises planned and arranged?

Participants (“blue team”) are grouped into various technical teams such as network and SOC to execute various defence and remediation techniques against mocked attacks launched by the instructor (“red team”) in an operational and realistic OT cyber range.

Workshop Overview:

Through this cyber exercise, participants will learn:

  • To describe Cyber Physical System (CPS) defence techniques through mocked cyber exercises
  • To understand actual versus perceived capabilities of people and defence mechanisms
  • Where to invest budgets in potential gaps and pitfalls
  • To strengthen and foster security teams to smoothen processes and responses against actual attacks in a cyber range
  • Improve morale and team building
  • Build up capabilities towards meeting regulatory and organisational requirements
