About this Event

About the Programme/Event

Return to Sri Lanka is a book full of spellbinding beauty and moving insight, from a writer who is a native, a tourist, both and neither. This travel memoir is Razeen Sally’s personal take on his home country. It covers the story of Razeen’s childhood in Sri Lanka, his long adult absence when he moved to the UK, then re-acquainting himself with the land of his birth in the last decade, travelling all over the island. It took ten years of travel and eight years of on-and-off writing for him to write this book. This book is his personal journey to tell the fascinating story of Sri Lanka: its history, its people, and landscapes.

This programme is suitable for those aged 50 and above.

About the Speaker

Razeen Sally was born to a Sri Lankan Muslim father and a Welsh mother. He grew up in Colombo and completed his later schooling and university studies in the UK. He taught for many years at the London School of Economics, and then at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, where he still teaches. His academic and advisory work has taken him around the world, but, in his early forties, he felt Sri Lanka calling him back for the first time since childhood. He has spent the last decade travelling all over the island.
