About this Event

This trip consist of not just the challenging Mount Semeru, but also the famous Mount Bromo and Tumpak Sewu Waterfall!

Mount Semeru, also known as "Mahameru" -'The Great Mountain' is the highest mountain in Java and is an active volcano. It is a challenging 2D1N trek, but the challenge of completing it and the view at the summit makes it worth the effort!

The summit is especially tiring, as you ascend up the steep and narrow ash slopes but the reward at the end makes it worthwhile, with amazing views from the highest peak of Java, where you can see the full crater of Mount Bromo and other mountains in the distance. Sometimes, there would be small eruptions so you can even see the ash plume.

The next day, we'll head to Cemero Lawang to experience the crater of Mount Bromo which we saw from the summit of Semeru.

On the last day, we'll visit the majestic Tumpak Sewu waterfall. It is often known as Indonesia's best waterfall (google image it), a massive 120m waterfall. We'll also visit Goa Tetes, the waterfall just beside it. After that, we'll head back to Surabaya Airport to take a flight back to Singapore!

Be prepared to wake up early every morning before sunrise!

Who is this for?

This is for anyone who wishes to challenge themselves. Semeru is very similar in difficulty to Rinjani. If you are looking for a rewarding trek or looking to try your first multi-day trek, this is for you.

"Beginners" are welcomed, but a lot of perseverance and willpower is required for this trek. Fitness will help a lot, if not to maximize success!

Be prepared to walk 6-8h per day during the trek.

This is also for people who wish to visit Semeru alongside the famous sights around the area without spending too much leave!

Why 2D1N hike and not 3D2N for Semeru?

Many people think that the extra day will help the summit, but the fact is the extra day of trek is only after the summit. This means that you spend 1 day camping at the lake on the descent instead of heading out to the village.

It is a 3 hours difference and although it is more tiring, I think camping there is quite cold and hard to sleep due to the noise.

So although it is a long day, the itinerary is focused on getting the Surabaya once we descend because it is possible and more comfortable in my opinion.

**This trip is dependent on the opening of the national park, which is usually on 1st May every year.
