About the Programme/Event
How do we read digital texts? What are the familiar techniques of print reading that we can incorporate into digital reading to make us more effective readers? Are the skills in reading for leisure the same skills as involved in reading critically? Are there new literacies involved in the reading of digital texts? Digital texts are multimodal in nature, comprising not just words, but also images, animation, and sound. They are often presented in multimedia formats on social media, webpages, and e-publications. Digital texts can also offer multiple reading pathways through hyperlinks and connections.
In this talk, Dr Victor Lim Fei will present an approach for navigating digital texts for both children and adults. He will also discuss how educators and caregivers can encourage and support positive digital reading habits as well as facilitate critical engagement with digital texts.
