Description

Prepare for the challenges of IB2 at Elite IB's IB1 Study Skills Workshop- with years of IB experience under our belts, we have learnt that many students do not understand the importance of finishing IB1 well, both in order to make IB2 final exams less overwhelming and for university applications. In this workshop, learn from our team of IB graduates with first-hand experience of the challenges of the IB, as well as a combined two decades of IB tutoring and mentoring experience, and be perfectly prepared for everything the IB can throw at you.

Mock Exams

Many students don’t fully acknowledge the importance of their first year IB mock exams, and often at their peril. For students applying to UK universities, these constitute an excellent opportunity to prove yourself to your teachers, who will use these to compile your predicted grades once you return to school. If you are aiming for the first UCAS deadline, these will be your only opportunity to sit exams across all your IB subjects. Even if you are aiming for the January deadline and therefore may have Winter Mocks to help make up your predicted grades, doing as well as possible in your IB1 exams mean you prepare yourself for university applications- and if you find your grades slipping straight after the summer break, you have excellent mock results to fall back on.

We will help you prepare a study schedule, providing advice on the weighting of subject revision according to your specific needs and current grades, as well as the courses and universities you are considering applying to. We can also help with honing your revision techniques- are you a mind-map person, or do you need to explain something to someone else to ensure you remember all its finer details? With years of tutoring experience, and having completed our own IB and university revision, we can help find your perfect revision tactics, no matter how much of the course you have covered, or when your Mock Exams are.

Attaining Three Core Points

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay can feel like distractions when you are trying to compile a year's worth of learning across six subjects, some of which you may never have studied before. However, with the IB's strict failing conditions surrounding TOK and EE, and UCAS' heavy weighting of the core points, make sure you give yourself the best chance to gain all three core points and return to school in September without worries about your EE or TOK essay and presentation.

We will discuss your Extended Essay proposal, giving you the opportunity not only to benefit from our experience, but also the ideas of your peers; we can provide guidance on limiting the scope of your EE, as well as structure and how to ensure you bag the marks for layout and presentation. Additionally, learn from IB graduates how to tackle researching the IB, and how to make best use of your time while digging into existing literature in your area. For TOK, we will examine previous essay topics and how you can prepare for yours, as well as discussing your ideas for your presentation.

Study Skills

The IB, although a rewarding, stimulating, and enormously beneficial programme, is undoubtedly stressful for almost all students- balancing time, energy, and knowledge across a wide range of subjects as well as meeting deadlines and managing the rest of your life is a difficult thing! We will help you plan your IB2 year, predicting deadlines before they become pressing, and help you make the most of your summer to prepare you for your IB2 year.
