About the Speaker

Join us on Tuesday, 22 August 2017 at the next In Search of Purpose talk with Mr Ravi Manas, founder of India-based NGO "Children of Mother Earth" (CoME), as he shares about his work with India’s street children, and how it has given him a life of purpose and meaning.

There are an estimated 18 million street children in India, and a further 60,000 are abandoned each year. Without a social safety net, these vulnerable children are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty and abuse, with little hope for a stable future. The memory of these street children and the crushing poverty they faced left a deep impression on Mr Ravi Manas, during his regular childhood trips to Gorakhpur, India, with his father.

In 1998, Ravi withdrew his life savings and converted his ancestral home in Gorakhpur to an orphanage, Children of Mother Earth (CoME). It is currently a non-governmental organisation that provides food, shelter and education for abandoned and orphaned children in India. Today, CoME has expanded to five homes across India, housing some 200 children. Much of Ravi’s humanitarian work is funded by rental proceeds from his flat in Singapore, with monetary support from sponsors.

Invite your family and friends today, and register now to avoid disappointment! We hope to see you there on 22 August 2017!

About the In Search of Purpose Talk Series

In Jan 2015, Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC) launched the In Search of Purpose Talk Series (ISOP), a TED-style inspirational talk series that seeks to help adults and youth discover their bigger role in society. Speakers, either local or overseas, are invited to share their personal stories and experiences about various topics that we hope will encourage the audience members to give back and be part of a more caring community in Singapore.
