About the Programme
This workshop is for participants aged 50 and above.
Robots are increasingly being integrated into our everyday lives due to their convenience and relatively lower cost as compared to human labour. You might have seen or interacted with the cleaning robots in shopping malls or food delivery robots in restaurants, but have you ever wondered how these robots sense their environments to avoid obstacles as they move about?
Join us as we teach you the basics of how such robots work through engaging in hands-on coding of the Qdee, a wheeled educational robot that works with micro:bit*!
*The micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer that has been introduced in many schools worldwide to encourage students to come up with innovative solutions with coding.
In this introduction to coding, participants will learn:
• What a micro:bit is and how it works;
• A block-based programming language used for the micro:bit – Microsoft MakeCode; and
• How to code the Qdee robot using micro:bit so that it can sense its surroundings and make decisions based on what it detects.
This programme is suitable for beginners. No prior knowledge of programming is needed to participate.
Laptops will be provided for the workshop.
