About this event

Schedule

28 December 2019 (9:30 am–1:30 pm)

The international workshop on social capital and aging offers a rare opportunity to listen from principal scholars in social capital and aging at one place concerning where the literature of social capital and aging stands now and which direction it should head toward in the future.

Specifically, the workshop hosts three keynote speakers: Professor Nan Lin, a creator of the concept and theory of social capital, Professor Beate Volker, a prominent figure of social capital research in Europe, and Professor Deborah Carr, a representative scholar in the areas of health, aging, life course, and social relationships. These three renowned intellectuals of global reputation will deliver speeches that will help the participants in the workshop learn the roles and values of social capital and aging studies in responding to crucial social, political, economic, and demographic challenges Singapore and other nations have to face up to.

Thematically conjoined with three keynote speeches, the two-day workshop also provides a series of presentations that will show the state-of-the-art research projects conducted by the faculty members at NUS, SMU, and Duke-NUS and NUS graduate students on the relevant topics of social capital, aging, and health. The workshop on social capital and aging will thus mark the end of the year 2019 by an intellectual party enriched with impactful speeches, presentations of cutting-edge research projects, and lively discussions about them.
