Event description

IYENGAR YOGA is named after and developed by B.K.S. Iyengar who is a very crucial figure in spreading yoga to the world.

This very precise form of Hatha Yoga, due to its systematic and specific methods, is often used effectively as a complementary alternative therapy for various common physical health conditions such as back pains, shoulder pains, scoliosis, just to name a few.

With its focus on the accuracy of the yoga poses and body alignment to suit the individual body, props like blocks, bolsters, chairs, ropes and belts are used to ensure each practitioner achieves the much-needed benefits of many poses, which were previously unattainable.

Simply because of its emphasis on the precision of alignment, well-trained and experienced Iyengar yoga teachers are hard to come by as it takes many years of stringent training and practice to achieve its certification.

In this 3-day immersion with Diwan, who is a highly experienced and recommended Iyengar yoga teacher, you will be able to experience first-hand, the wonderful and multiple benefits of this yoga practice while understanding how this form of yoga aids therapy for the physical body, cultivating optimal body awareness that builds strength, stability and flexibility safely and surely, in both your mind and body.

* Tickets can be purchased per-session, or as a bundle at a promotional rate.

About the Instructor

Diwan Singh Bisht was born in the picturesque hill town of Almora in 1976. At aged 24, he discovered yoga. His first teacher was one of B.K.S. Iyengar’s foremost and senior students, Br Rudradev Gowda. Diwan spent 4 years at Br Rudra’s Yoga Study Centre in Rishikesh, where he studied and learned the basic foundation of Iyengar Yoga while regularly attending the general classes, intensive courses and yoga therapy classes. Br. Rudradev Yogacharya’s, teachings and asthetic way of life turned Diwan towards spirituality, introspection and meditation. Later, he enhanced his knowledge of correcting and assisting yoga students working with Sharat Arora of Dharamshala; Italy’s Maria Paola, and Ushadevi of the internationally-acclaimed Omkarananda yoga studio in Rishikesh.

For the past seven years Diwan has studied regularly at the Ramani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Poona, under the guidance of Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar from whom he received his certificate as an Iyengar certified yoga teacher.

Diwan taught yoga asana in Italy for three years until 2007, and has since then regularly conducted classes in India and China. A committed practitioner of Vipassana meditation, Diwan uses its precepts to give his practice and teaching a meditative and introspective approach. Teaching for him is a way of life and he sees it as way of sharing knowledge in an environment where both teacher and student work to perfect their asana practice.
