Event Details

Singaporeans are leading active work lives in their senior years.  We have amongst the world’s highest employment rates for older workers with employment rate of residents aged 55 to 64 trending up over past decade, to a high of 67.2% in 2015.  In recent years, over 98% of local employees who wish to continue working were offered employment beyond age 62.  This was reinforced by raising the re-employment age on 1 July 2017 from 65 to 67.

Efforts to enable older workers to continue working should be strengthened.  A large part of this effort involves redesigning jobs and managing the needs of the workforce to improve employee engagement and productivity.

Redesigning jobs can be simple and cost-effective.  It could involve modifying job tasks, responsibilities, work arrangements, and physical workspaces with the help of automation.

Shaping Competency in Job Redesign for Workplace Safety and Productivity: New Methodology & Immersive Learning Environment

Job design is an integral component in an organisation.  The way a job is designed affects a worker’s motivation and performance.  A poorly designed job may lead to issues with workplace safety and lost productivity.  Job redesign is crucial to effectively match the job to a worker’s strengths and abilities.  In line with the recommendations made by the Tripartite Committee on Employability of Older Workers, a training programme for Age Management @ Workplace was developed by several agencies.  Job Redesign, led by Republic Polytechnic, was identified as one of the key focus areas in this programme.  A new methodology, the 4E Job Redesign Methodology, was developed to provide a holistic and systematic framework for job analysis and improvement studies.  It strives to understand and grow an enterprise’s bottom-line in a sustainable manner.
