KCWK Cantonese Opera Appreciation Under the Stars

Ever wondered what makes the characters in Cantonese opera tick and why they have captured the imagination of generations?

Step into an experiential collision of new vs old, modern vs tradition, and East vs West.

Held on the rooftop of a 182-year-old Cantonese clan association, this unprecedented alfresco-style cultural event jointly organised by the clan youths together with the Cantonese opera troupe is not-to-be-missed. Groove to Cantopop and tunes under the dazzling stars while sipping craft tea. Soak in the atmosphere with light-hearted Cantonese Opera themed discussions, demonstrations and hands-on tasters. Take insta-worthy photos with back-to-the-1900s-feels.

Free admission via pre-registration. All proceeds from the event go towards donating to charity.

This programme is jointly organised by the clan's Youth Department and the Cantonese Opera Department.

Note: In the case of rain, the event will be held on the second floor of the clan building instead.

7.30 pm: Cantopop live singing

8.00 pm: Cantonese opera demonstration and hands-on workshop

8.45 pm: Decoding KCWK's upcoming Cantonese opera performance items + Open mic discussions

Theme #1: "Defying norms" (hint: forbidden love between mortal and immortal + woman trashing steoreotypes during pre-Song dynasty times!)

Theme #2: "Love and Loyalty" (hint: when the one you love is an enemy + steadfast love after 18 years of separation)
